MARC LOC UTILITY (supports Auto Librarian™ SE and Version 4.0) Product Fact Sheet

The MARC LOC Utility is a software utility that simplifies the downloading and transfer of Library of Congress MARC records that have been searched on the Library of Congress Internet website into a single file to a user- designated drive.  The file can then be accessed by any MARC record import utility for the purpose of importing records into a library management software book database.  Now you don't have to be a computer guru to download MARC records...MARC LOC streamlines and simplifies the process for you..

USING MARC LOC The MARC LOC Utility is easy to use and performs the following three functions with a few mouse clicks:  1) Accesses the Search page on the Library of Congress Website. 2) Captures the searched and selected MARC records found on the website.  3) Saves the MARC records into a single file for easy importing.  The file name and drive are chosen by the user.  The saved MARC records can then be imported into any library management software program capable of importing MARC records in MARC format. For Auto Librarian users:  Auto Librarian Library Server V.4 when used in conjunction with the MARC/AL Interface Utility V.4. can import the saved MARC records which have been downloaded using the MARC LOC Utility.  The MARC/AL Interface Utility V.4 converts the MARC record to an Auto Librarian V.4 record and includes a viewer/editor to view the record and edit it prior to sending the record to the Auto Librarian V.4 book database. When importing MARC records from the Library of Congress Website into Auto Librarian V.4 both the MARC LOC and MARC/AL Interface Utilities should be purchased for greatest ease of use. Why use the Library of Congress website?  The Library of Congress has an extensive collection (well over 12 million) free MARC records available to anyone with Internet access, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (except for brief periods of maintenance).  While other collections of MARC records are available, most are not free.
